Toward the end of the 1970s Giovanni Battista Cantele and his wife Teresa Manara decided to consolidate thirty years of experience in the wine world of northern Italy and bring their expertise to the region of Puglia, and Salento in particular, where they saw tremendous potential; during the 1980s their two sons, Augusto and Domenico, took over, continuing their parents' joint focus on both native and international grape varieties, then passing the reins to the next generation, Gianni, Paolo, Umberto and Luisa. A hearty Italian red, Cantele's Primitivo offers earthy dark fruit, nice juicy tannins and a subtle, spicy finish. A very enjoyable wine, perfect for pairing with tomato-based pasta sauces and spicy sausage.
