La Spinetta was founded in Castagnole Lanze, in Piedmont, in 1977 by Giuseppe and Lidia Rivetti. Today La Spinetta is in the hands of the second and third generation, Giorgio Rivetti and his son Andrea. Giorgio is widely regarded as one of the leading forces in Piedmont, one of the best and most innovative winemakers in the region today. Timorasso is a very old varietal that originated in the hills of southeastern Piedmont and was on the verge of extinction in the 1980s but is now gaining renewed recognition. Rivetti’s is a fairly restrained version of the grape, with aromas and flavors of green apples, grapefruit, and juniper berries, bright acidity, and subtle peppery spice at the finish.
