The Campi Flegrei (Phlegreian Fields, or “burning” fields in English) is a large nested caldera located under the western outskirts of the citiy of Naples and under the Gulf of Pozzuoli that contains many volcanic centers that have been active during the past 30-40,000 years. It is here that five generations of the DiMeo family have made their home, tending their ancient vineyards and making remarkable wine. Today Luigi and Restituta DiMeo , who first bottled their wines under their own label in 1997, are joined by their three sons Vincenzo, Salvatore and Mattia to produce three wines, a red made from the Piedirosso grape; CRUna DeLago, a Falanghina made from grapes from 65-year-old vines; and this, their basic Falanghina, aged on the lees in stainless steel for three months. The wine has a crisp minerally character while also showing appealing aromas and flavors of citrus, flowers, and tarragon.
