The Bernard family has been farming in the Rhone Valley since the latter part of the 19th century, but each generation has made significant changes: Maurice, grandfather of the current generation, in the 1950s prioritized grape-growing, while his son Jacques, assisted by his wife, expanded the vineyards to a total of 125 acres. But it was only in 2008 that the current generation, Philippe and his wife Elizabeth, created the winery and pursued organic certification. The Bernards’ vineyards are located in Gigondas and Vacqueyras as well as in Beaumes-de-Venise, where the winery is located. Beaumes-de-Venise is of course famous for its natural sweet wines, and that is what we have here; made 100% from the Muscat a Petit Grains grape, fortified with brandy and produced in a manner similar to port, this is a rich, concentrated wine with lavish streaks of honey and apricot nectar accented by orange peel and burnt caramel.
