Jolie-Laide is a one-man operation based in Sebastopol, California, that one man being Scott Schultz, a refugee from the restaurant scene in Chicago who went to California originally to lead the wine program at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon. Scott chooses to work with some of California's rarer varieties, and his quantities are often small (his total annual output today is only some 2400 cases). "Glou d'Etat" is his new red blend but, surprisingly for him, a blend of fairly standard grapes, the classic Rhone trio of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. As Scott explains it, this is "a light summer crusher of a red wine made in a fun and irreverent style inspired by many of our favorite European wines. Soulful yet unpretentious, easy to drink and most importantly affordable so you needn’t worry about how many you open with friends."
