In 1998 Joey Tensley launched Tensley Wines with one hundred cases and one goal: to start a well-priced brand that let the unique vineyards of Santa Barbara County speak for themselves. Today, Tensley is a 5,000 case-a-year business, producing wines that that gain impressively high ratings year in and year out. Initially the project was Syrah-driven, and the Tensley wines remain largely focused on that grape, with the addition of a few other Rhone varietals, but in 2017 Joey launched his “Fundamental Wines” line, dedicated to making great quality wines at affordable prices (and not incidentally moving beyond Syrah in his offerings). Based largely on grapes sourced from the Santa Rita Hills region, this Pinot is bright and expressive, with a fruity core and soft tannins that make for a long, rich finish.
