Founded in 1977, and acquired by the Tipa Bertarelli Family in 2002, Grattamacco was one of first the two wineries in Bolgheri. In a region typically known for Cabernet and Merlot, Grattamacco sets itself apart with its winemaking practices, using 15% Sangiovese to impart quality and elegance in its wines. The vineyards, located at 330 feet above sea level, are on a rise between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, in a wonderfully protected plot that spans over one of Bolgheri’s only two hills. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with that small amount of Sangiovese added in, this is a meaty, full-bodied red, well structured, with a round and juicy finish.
