The Abrigo family has been making high-quality wines in Piedmont, in Diano d’Alba, for more than fifty years. Founded by Giorgio Abrigo in 1968, the winery is today run by his son Giogio, now joined by the third generation Giulio and Sergio, who graduated from the oenology school in Alba in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Their vineyards, which comprise some 32 acres mostly in and around Diano d’Alba, are planted to the characteristic red and white grapes native to Piedmont, such as Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Arneis, and this Favorita, which is the Piemontese name for Vermentino. The Abrigos’ version is fresh and light (“light-hearted,” they like to say), a blend of grapes from three different vineyards in Diano d’Alba, aged in stainless steel with lees contact and just the slightest bit of effervescence.
