Francois Chidaine is one of the Loire Valley’s great success stories. After finishing viticulture school in the mid-1980s he joined his father, who had only ten acres of rented vineyard in Montlouis, near Vouvray. After taking over from his father in 1989 he began to establish contracts with the owners of the vineyards he worked, all providing an option to buy if the land ever came available. In 2006 he bought several of those parcels and immediately became one of the Loire Valley’s most serious players. His Touraine Rouge is a blend of Cot (aka Malbec), Cabernet Franc, and Pineau d’Aunis; it is a juicy and spicy red with impressive richness and power.
