Fetzer Vineyards was founded in 1958, in Mendocino County, when lumberman Barney Fetzer bought a 720-acre ranch In Redwood Valley. The first vintage was a 2,500 case of a red table wine in 1968. Today they are the largest Mendocino County winery by far, producing wines not only from their two thousand acres in Hopland (Mendocino) and in Paso Robles but from other suppliers in the state and in the world, sometimes purchasing grapes and/or juice and finishing the wine in their facilities in Hopland. This white is a 51/49 blend of Chardonnay and a Spanish grape called Pedro Jimenez, the primary grape used in the production of sherry. The wine is produced and bottled in Chile by Fruticola Viconto for Fetzer; it is a crisp white with aromas and flavors of apples, pears, and tropical fruit, an ideal match for a wide variety of foods.
