Don and Rhonda Carano were first introduced to the charms of northern Sonoma County in 1979; eventually they not only bought a 60-acre parcel in Alexander Valley but began taking classes in enology and viticulture. Ground was broken for the Dry Creek winery in 1985, and the first wines, a Chardonnay and a Fume Blanc, were released in 1987. Don passed away in 2017 but Rhonda continues to be actively involved and is ably supported by a team that includes two very talented woman winemakers, Natalie West (white wines) and Rebekah Deike (reds). The Fume Blanc remains the winery’s calling card: a blend of grapes from throughout Sonoma County, it has aromas and flavors of pink grapefruit, lychees, honeydew, guava, and a touch of mineralilty.
