The Cazes family, owners of (among others) Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, has long ranked among the top tiers of the movers and shakers in Bordeaux. Back in the early 1970s Jean-Michel Cazes formed the JM Cazes group to consolidate and manage the family’s holdings, turning the reins over to his son Jean-Charles in 2006. Domaine de l’Ostal is the group’s Languedoc outpost. It is a large estate, 375 acres in total with a50 acres under vine, located in the Minervois. The rose in a roughly 50/50 blend of Grenache and Syrah, made from grapes grown in the cooler part of the estate; it has aromas and flavors of fresh red fruits – raspberries, red currants, strawberries, and pomegranate – and a crisp refreshing finish.
