The founder of this winery, Vicente Garrido, made his first wine in 1923. Always a family operation, the winery has, since 1945, been in the hands of Vicente’s son Eduardo, now joined by Eduardo’s daughter Amelia. The winery is located in Abelos, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria Mountains in the heart of Rioja Alta. This Reserva is mostly Tempranillo, with a small amount of Garnacha blended in, all from vineyardds that are 50-60 years old. The wine was aged 18 months in a combination of French and American oak, then given an additional two years of aging in the bottle before release; medium-bodied, it is clean and bright, with aromas of balsam and ripe fruit, fresh and elegant on the palate, with well-developed tannins.
