Guigal has aptly been described as the "locomotive" of the northern Rhone; the Guigal name is virtually synonymous with extraordinary wines from Cote Rotie, Condrieu, Hermitage, St.-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage. But Guigal is now very much a presence in the southern Rhone as well, gaining a strong foothold there in 2017 with the acquisition of the Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their Gigondas is Grenache-driven, with small amounts of Syrah and Mourvedre blended in; it shows licorice, stone fruit and spice on the nose, and the palate is generous and elegant, with supple tannins and an impressive structure.
