Seeking a slower pace of life, Marc Ollivier, who was then an engineer, decided in the early 1980s to move to the country, to the Muscadet region of the Loire; he took over his father’s vineyards and produced his first vintage in 1985. Virtually self-taught as a winemaker, Ollivier farms organically and takes a minimalist approach in the winery. Marc's success is combination of good fortune (his vineyards were never touched by wine consultants encouraging new, higher-yield clones) and an open-minded, experimental approach to making the best possible wines. This is Ollivier’s classic earliest-released bottling, made in his benchmark style: racy, crisp, driven by acidity and minerality, with a hint of richness from the sur lie factor.
