Charles Magnien is the twelfth generation at his family’s domaine in Gevrey Chambertin. They have 15 acres of vines, mostly in Gevrey in some key parcels, Ruchottes, Lavaut Saint Jacques, Cazetiers, and Champeaux. Charles took over from his father in 2009 and immediately invested his energy and efforts in the vineyards; he is the first in his family to bottle all of the wine from the grapes they grow and now, with more than ten vintages under his belt, the Henri Magnien wines are becoming recognized as some of the best in the village. This is his village wine, a blend of grapes from six different plots at the bottom of the hillside and aged for a year in French oak, only 25% of which is new. This is a concentrated, perfumed Pinot, medium-bodied and bright, with melting tannins and a saline finish.
