The Gonnet family settled in this part of the southern Rhone back in the 1600s and built the farmhouse that today serves as the estate’s headquarters in 1880. Today the property is in the careful hands of cousins Bertrand and Guillaume Gonnet. They produce wines under three labels: Font de Michelle, Font du Vent, and Gonnet Pere & Fils. The Font du Vent property is located near Avignon. Les Promesses is a decidedly plump, fruit-forward effort that gives up plenty of garrigue, sweet flowers and licorice-laced black raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it’s a serious crowd-pleaser to drink over the coming couple of years.
