The first de Clocks arrived in Bordeaux from Holland in 1679 and immediately set about cultivating vines. Some 250 years later, in 1949, Leon de Clock married Camille de Vulliod, whose family had owned Domaine Font Mars, on the Thau lagoon in the Languedoc, since 1864. Now their youngest son, Jean-Baptiste, has fully modernized this beautiful estate and brought the wine produced here into the 21st Century. Malbec is currently enjoying a meteoric rise in this southern part of France, having found a very comfortable home in the vineyards here. Font-Mars’ version is fresh and unoaked, intense and spicy on the palate, with dark fruits and an attractive tannic bite in the finish.
