The Daou family fled Lebanon in 1975, emigrating first to Paris and then to Cannes, where brothers George and Daniel first began dreaming of a life in wine. In the early 1980s the brothers came to America, earned degrees in mechanical engineering and computer engineering, and started their own company, DAOU Systems, a networking technology company that would revolutionize hospital computer systems. After taking it public in 1988, they sold the company, which gave them the wherewithal to pursue their winemaking ambitions. They found their ideal location on a mountain in the Adelaide district west of Paso Robles. This is their entry-level Cabernet, the only Cab in their portfolio made entirely from purchased fruit and meant to be drunk young. With a forward, charming yet structured style, it offers classy aromas and flavors of violets and red currants.
