Dal Forno is probably the most renowned name of the Veneto, producing fantastically complex, deep and structured Amarones and Valpolicellas, surely some of the best in the market. The great richness of Dal Forno's wines is derived from the extremely low yields of this artisan's 30-some-acre estate outside the Classico zone. This wine is a blend of Corvinone (60%), Rondinella (20%), Croatina (10%), and Oselata (10%); it is made in the appassimento style, in which the grapes are spread on straw mats for three months to drain them of their water and concentrate their sugar, then crushed and fermented in stainless and aged in new French oak barriques for two years then in the bottle for twelve months more. This rich, expansive wine is one of the best of its kind. The 2003 Amarone is rich, luscious, concentrated and ripe with a long finish and layers of flavors.
