Ramon Losado is a veterinarian by profession but a winemaker by birthright. The D. Ventura winery is named after his grandfather who taught him winemaking and includes three small vineyards in Ribiera Sacra. In 1999, he and his sister Belen refurbished the cellar in the ancient family farmhouse in Pantón and began bottling and selling their wines, which until then were for self-consumption. Since then, they have made many fans of their honest, soulful red wines from Galicia’s rugged interior mountains. A blend of grapes from all three vineyards, this is a medium-bodied, aromatic red with lively acidity and silky tannins, elegant and well-balanced with a vibrant mineral finish.
