Giuseppe Contratto founded the company in Piedmont that bears his name in 1867. The company remained with the family for 126 years until, in 1993, the estate was acquired by Carlo Bocchino who in turn sold it in 2011 to the noted winemaker Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta. Today a UNESCO World Heritage site, Contratto produces only traditional-method sparkling wine and some selected spirits under the watchful eye of Rivetti and his talented son Andrea. Made following the original 19th Century recipe, the Contratto white vermouth is based on a unique combination of white wine, Italian brandy, and a delicate infusion of more than 50 premium natural herbs, spices, roots and seeds, including coriander, chamomile, aloe juice, cinnamon, cardamom, and bitter orange; the result is a sophisticated, well-balanced aperitif with a distinctive bouquet and taste.
