Chante Cigale is a family domaine with deep roots in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is in the charge today of Alexandre Favier, whose grandfather, Noel Sabon, came from one of the top winemaking families in the region. Alexandre himself began his viticultural studies in Orange at the age of fifteen and passed the exams four years later in 2001. A year later (at age twenty!) he took over winemaking duties at the domaine when his father experienced health problems. This is a traditional house, with 100 acres planted to red grapes and roughly 12 acres to whites. This is Favier’s white, a rather unusual blend of equal parts Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, and Picpoul; it is a clean, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced white with aromas and flavors of lemon curd, toasted bread, white flowers, and spice.
