La Spinetta was founded in Castagnole Lanze, in Piedmont, in 1977 by Giuseppe and Lidia Rivetti. Today La Spinetta is in the hands of the second and third generation, Giorgio Rivetti and his son Andrea. Giorgio is widely regarded as one of the leading forces in Piedmont, one of the best and most innovative winemakers in the region today. His rosato, however, is made not in Piedmont but in Tuscany, from grapes sourced from vines in the 120 acres Giorgio acquired there in 2001. A blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Pruugnolo Geentile, it has aromas of sliced peaches and flowers and is very complex, with an energetic backbone of acidity, great structure, and a lovely finish.
