Casa de Santar is a historic family-owned manor house that is also the biggest private estate in the Dao in terms of vineyard area: altogether it has 300 acres of vines split between two locations. Wine has been made here since 1616. A typical mix of grape varieties is grown, with Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz for the reds and Arinto, Cercial and Encruzado for whites. Their red blend is soft, smooth, and ready to drink; with its ripe red fruits and gentle tannins it is a fruity, generous wine, with a crisp aftertaste of acidity.
