The Verdi family can trace its winegrowing origins back seven generations, to the 18th century, when Antonio Verdi came from Parma to settle in the Oltrepo Pavese, southeast of Milan. Third-generation Luigi was the first to begin winemaking, but it was sixth-generation Bruno who, after World War II, was the first to bottle the wine at the estate. The winery is todsay in the hands of his son Paolo. The family farms a diverse group of parcels totaling roughly 42 acres planted to 14 different varietals. Their Pinot Grigio, done entirely in stainless steel to capture the grape's freshness, has aromas of ripe apricots and is crisp and citrusy on the palate.
