Boundary Breaks is located in Lodi, New York, on the east side of Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes region. Bruce Murray, a thirty-year veteran of the publishing industry, acquired the 120 acres in 2008, when it was just the land, no vines, and a run-down wooden shed. Bruce has since been joined by co-owner Diana Lyttle, who he married in 2017. Bruce’s initial plan was to plant only Riesling, to which the Finger Lakes climate is especially suited, but subsequently added Gewurztraminer along with small amounts inf Merlot and Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. People are often put off by the green, intensely herbaceous character of Cab Fran, but the Boundary Breaks version has none of that; instead, it is a friendly and direct red, with bright notes of cherry and pomegranate and fresh herbs for a savory finish.
