Bernabeleva lies on the eastern edge of Spain's Sierra del Gredos mountains, in a place called San Martin de Valdeigleasias, just 75 minutes by car from Madrid. Bernabeleca, which translates as "the bear's forest," was started in 1923 by a noted doctor from Madrid, Vincente Alvarez-Villamil, who identified this piece of land as a special place to plant Grenache. With the onset of the Spanish Civil War, the doctor's dream of making wine ended, only to be revived in 2006 by two of his great-grandchildren, cousins Juan Diez Bulnes and Santiago Matallana Bulnes. Navaherreros represents a selection of estate Garnacha nad is considered the essence of San Martin Garnacha; this is a clean, vibrant wine, lighter-bodied but with concetrated fruit flavors, with surprising power and very good length.
