Once the property of the Bonaparte family, Boccadigabbia, is a small (25 acres) property in the Marche, on the first hills that rise from the Adriatic Sea. It was acquired by Mariano Alessandri in 1956 and is now run by his son Elvidio, assisted by his three sons, Lorenzo, Francesco, Agnese, and daughter Federica. Though the estate first achieved notice with their critically-acclaimed Cabernet ‘Akronte’, the family has worked diligently in recent years to shed the influence of Boccadigabbia’s imperial past and promote the importance of native grapes. One of those grapes is Ribona (also known as Maceratino), a rare white varietal grown almost exclusively in the province of Macerata in the Marche. Done entirely in stainless steel, the wine is highly aromatic, crisp and full-flavored, with hints of yellow peach, apricot, mango, mimosa, and chamomile, and a pleasantly fresh and mineral finish.
