Bernard and Jocelyn, and son Loic Dugat-Py represent the twelfth and thirteenth generations of this family making wine on their 25-acre property in Gevry-Chambertin in the heart of Burgundy. In spite of the family’s long history here, however, the domaine began estate-bottling only in 1989. Bernard Dugat-Py is widely recognized as one of the shrewdest winemakers on the Côte. The vines are for the most part extremely old, averaging 65 years of age across the domaine, and all the trimming is done by hand, while a horse is used to plough a few of the vineyards. Replanting is done with selections from their own vine stock, never with clones. The domaine has been fully organic since 2003 while son Loïc has been doing some biodynamic work with consultant Paul Masson. The wines are vinified with as little intervention as possible and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. This Pommard comes from a vineyard where the vines are more than 85 years old; it is rich and fragrant on the nose, with fine tannins and lots of fresh fruit.
