Wagram is in the Wachau, the most westerly of Austria's wine regions and arguably the most dynamic; here Josef Bauer and his wife Maria Anna cultivate several vineyards devoted to a dozen different grape varieties, including Zweigelt, Austria’s most widely planted dark-berried grape, which produces a soft red wine that is reminiscent of a Pinot Noir. This single-vineyard version from the Bauers shows just a kiss of tannins offsetting dark berry fruit.
