Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of “Rote Schild,” the German for “red shield,” the historical emblem of the Rothschild family. Escudo Rojo is one of three lines produced by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in Chile, founded in 1997 in Maipo by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Baron Philippe’s daughter. The Escudo Rojo range includes five varietal wines, including this Carmenere. A great introduction to what has come to be known as Chile’s signature red grape, this is a full-bodied, concentrated red with aromas of fleshy ripe black plums and dark spice.
