Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of “Rote Schild,” the German for “red shield,” the historical emblem of the Rothschild family. Escudo Rojo is one of three lines produced by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in Chile and was founded in 1997 in Maipo by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Baron Philippe’s daughter, in collaboration with Concha y Toro. Escudo Rojo’s extensive range is newly joined by this “Baronessa P., a speciial cuvee that pays tribute to the baroness, who died ten years ago. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah blended in, this is a full-bodied polished red with intense black fruit aromas, firm velvety tannins, and a plush texture.
