This cava producer, dating from the latter part of the 19th century, began as a family affair and remains so to this day, now run by four siblings devoted to maintaining their family traditions. They farm four parcels of vineyards in the Penedes, about 100 acres, planted largely to the traditional cava varietals of Xarel-lo, Parellada, and Macabeu. The "vi d'Agulia, however, is something a bit different: it is a vi d’agulla, the Catalan term for a prickly wine bottled with a little natural effervescence retained from the winemaking process, and it is the traditional summertime quaffer in the Penedes. A blend of Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Muscat de Frontignan, it is bright, fresh, and effervescent, and features a low alcohol content of only 10.5%.
