Built in 1973, Hakushu is Suntory’s second distillery. Located amidst the deepest forests of Mt. Kaikomagatake in the Japanese Southern Alps, it is without question one of the highest in the world. Known as “the fresh Japanese whisky,” Hakushu is an herbal and gently smoky single malt. This 18 Year has been described as a massive step up in quality from the standard Hakushu 12 Year. It is well defined, with rounded fruit and cereal flavors, at times reminiscent of the finest potstill Irish whiskies.
