Lagavulin is a single malt Scotch whisky produced on the island of Islay. It has a powerful, peat-smoke aroma typical of southern Islay, but with a dryness that turns it into a truly interesting dram. This Distillers Edition was aged for sixteen years in traditional oak vats, then finished in casks that were previously used to mature sherry made from Pedro Ximinez grapes. This double-maturation process complements the intensely smoky notes of the whisky and adds an additional layer of complexity. It has an aroma of intense raisins, prunes and smoke. The initial notes are surprisingly sweet, with subtle hints of caramel, vanilla and dates that are balanced by a smoky undertone.
