Located off the mainland’s west coast, the ruggedly beautiful Isle of Jura contains more than 5,000 deer, a bit more than 200 people, and a single distillery, The Isle of Jura Distilling Company, located in the town of Craighouse. The distillery was established in 1810, then reborn in 1963, under the auspices of Whyte and Mackay, to bring life back to the island and the community. Today, almost every family on the island has a member who works in our distillery, with our distillery or in whisky-related tourism. Their single malts are very much shaped by the pure character of their water, which starts at the top of the tallest mountain range on the island and makes its way via the Market Loch to the distillery. Their 12-Year Single Malt is tyical of their offerings, intense and muscular yet approachable. Matured in bourbon casks and given an oloroso sherry finish, it offers a honeyed sweetness with notes of warm spice.
