Founded only in 2019, Hiatus Tequila is the personal project of Kristopher DeSoto. Born and raised in Texas, he was introduced to tequila early on, and at one point spent more than seven years living in Mexico. In that time, he noticed that the most sought-after tequilas south of the border were often different from those found on U.S. shelves, the flavors and aromas more robust and expressive. He decided that such a tequila—true tequila—should be available in the United States. Hiatus is made at La Cofradia, a family-owned distillery in Jalisco, from 100% blue Weber agave which are allowed to fully mature for up to eight years in order to ripen. An easy-drinking tequila, the Anejo is aged for a full year in used American oak barrels and is full-bodied with notes of warming vanilla, oak and just enough agave.
