Cynar is an Italian bitter apéritif of the amaro variety. It is made from 13 herbs and plants, predominant amongst which are artichoke leaves, from which the drink derives its name. Created in Padua in 1952 by Angelo, Amadeo, and Mario Dalle Molle, it is today under the ownership of the Campari Group. It has a pungent, bittersweet flavor (but does not taste like artichokes), which makes it an interesting ingredient in a variety of cocktails.
