The Cruzan Rum distillery, located in St. Croix, in the American Virgin Islands, was founded in 1760. For eight generations, and through various changes in corporate ownership (it is today owned by Beam Suntory), it has been managed by the Nelthropp family. Their Aged Dark is a blend of rums made from imported molasses in a five-column still. It is aged in charred American oak for two-four years and is bottled at 80 proof; a delightful sipper, it has light vanilla and lighter wood on the nose, with toasty hazelnut and caramel sweetness on the palate.
