For more than a century, the Antica Erberisteria of Dr. Cappelletti has been producing a wide range of amari, cordials, and grappe, using the mountain herbs and fruits and benefiting from the sun and the pure air and water of Trentino in northeastern Italy. Americano is the name of a category of aperitif wines, enshrined in Italian and EU law, that derive their flavor primarily from gentian and may also be colored red or yellow. New to the American market, Cappelletti’s version is rosy red with a fairly bitter cut; it's both orangey and herbal, with only a hint of sweetness and a drying finish, somewhere between Campari and sweet vermouth in flavor.
