Arran is a relatively new producer, having opened its first distillery on the island of that name in Lochranza nearly thirty years ago; they started a second distillery in Lagg, on the south end of the island, in 2019. Lochranza was chosen for its proximity to Loch na Davie, which assured them a special source of fresh water for distilling, and the distillery itself was the creation of the famous distiller James MacTaggart, with the aim of showing the lighter side of Arran. This Reserve, matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks, With hints of toffee, custard, and an intriguing salty note, this is a simple, straightforward, and immediately appealing dram.
