Claus Preisinger is more than a bit of a self-made man and winemaker: he started his winery in his early twenties out of his parents’ garage and finished building his state-of-the-art winery in the Burgenland region of Austria in 2009, before he was even thirty years old. He has become known for his elegantly crafted versions of two Austrian red grapes, Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch, and has been practicing biodynamics since the very beginning. His “Puzta Libre” (“wide free land” in Hungarian) is a 60/20/20 blend of Zweigelt, Saint Lauret, and Pinot Noir that Preisinger calls his “homage to good Beaujolais”; light and bright with smooth tannins, the wine has a beautiful dark cherry color with black fruit flavors to match.
