The Kiwi Cuvee brand is the result of a collaboration between a New Zealand winemaker, Rhyan Wardman, and a French one, Guillaume Lachetau, working in the Loire Valley , where the wines are actually made. Fifteen years ago, when the Sauvignon Blanc debuted on the international market, the Australian press (and then the British, and then the Americans) made a major fuss over the name, but Time hailed it as “the next generation of French wines.” Years on all that dust has settled and it is rightly seen as a good white wine made in the Loire Valley by a good New Zealand winemaker. (The two internationalists have since expanded their offerings to include a Pinot Grigio, a Pinot Noir, and a Cab Franc rosé.) This is a crisp and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, loaded with citrus and other tropical fruits, the essence of refreshing.
