A fairly recent success story in the southern Rhone, Domaine de la Bastide St. Dominique was founded in 1976 by Gerard and Marie-Claude Bonnet, who built the winery around a 16th-century chapel in the commune of Courthezon. The Bonnets, long known as highly successful negociants in the region, have since been joined here by their son Eric. The estate comprises some 125 acres and produces wines under several different designations, including Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Cairanne, and Châteauneuf du Pape. This is their Côtes du Rhône Villages, which is roughly half Grenache with Syrah, Carignn and Mouvedre blended in. it is textured and dense, vivid and spicy, with a medium body, fine tannins, and a velvety texture.
